What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are caps we place over a tooth damaged to restore both its appearance and stability. Decay or other forms of damage can gradually wear down a tooth. Not only can this make that tooth stand out in your smile, but it can affect daily activities like chewing. Capping a tooth with a crown gets it right back to the starting point.

Some of the primary concerns we treat with dental crowns can include:
  • Sealing a tooth treated with a root canal
  • Restoring the structural stability of a damaged tooth
  • Covering decay or damage for a renewed appearance

The Advantages of Dental Crowns

  • Very durable materials for long-lived results
  • Natural shape and color to the tooth
  • Boost confidence in your smile
  • Improve comfort and ease of chewing

How to Get Dental Crowns

Getting your dental crown will typically take a couple of steps. All told, the process is spread out over a couple of weeks and two to three visits to our office. However, our patients agree that the results are worth the wait.
Consultation
We always start off by checking your oral health and discussing your goals. Based on this meeting, we may recommend a crown or another more appropriate treatment.
Many patients will first need decay cleared away from a tooth. Others may need damaged parts filed down to create a more even surface.
We take impressions of your smile. Our lab technicians use these to fabricate a custom dental crown that will look perfect.
Once the crown is ready, you can come in for a fitting and placement.

Dental Emergency? We got you covered.

We are open 5 days a week, including Saturday and evening appointments. Same Day appointments available.

How long does a crown last?
Depending on the material, crowns tend to last between 10 to 15 years. Many patients see their crowns last even longer with good oral hygiene.
Dental crowns are excellent for restoring premolars or molars. In rare cases, a severely damaged tooth may need to be extracted.

The cost of each dental crown is evaluated individually. We look at specific factors in your case to provide a no-commitment quote during your consultation.
